Quartz Tube Inspector

Faced with the challenge of developing a machine that could inspect both physical and visual attributes of a family of quartz tube products (6mm to 20mm OD by 1mm to 3mm wall thickness by 25mm to 40mm length) at a minimum rate of 3600 per hour, MRI teamed with vision system developer Walsh Automation to engineer a custom inspection machine.

Together, the team developed an integrated system that automatically inspected the tubes for diameter, length, wall thickness, air lines, chipped edges, and roundness at a demonstrated maximum rate of 4500 tubes per hour.

Once integrated into the shop floor, the client saw a fourfold improvement in productivity and greatly improved consistency of the inspection function.
