Refrigerator Inspection System

Significant seal problems were being experienced in this refrigerator manufacturer's plant due to misaligned doors.

While design had a solution through the installation of selected shims gauging and selection of appropriate shims was time consuming and encompassed several stations along this paced assembly line.

To overcome this challenge, MRI designed a system that used the output from an electronic gauge to determine the proper thickness across a range of shims (six types) and automatically dispensed to the assembly operators only the correct shim on a refrigerator-by-refrigerator basis.

The results were the elimination of the gauging operator and solution of the door seal problem.
