Mercury Vapor Lamp Tester

The final testing of large base mercury vapor lamps requires light up and seasoning of the product for eight minutes.

After the eight minute run, the lamp is inspected for power consumed which is an indicator of the lamps quality and expected life. Traditionally lamps were bulk packed and moved to an off line area where they were batch tested. MRI designed and built a continuous testing machine that permitted testing at the end of the line matching the upstream production rate of 1200 lamps per hour.

The tester eliminated the bulk storage WIP as well as eliminating the overtime associated with the capacity limiting traditional testing methods. Electronic data logging provided statistical information for the corporate Six-Sigma initiative of this major manufacturer of lighting products.
