Illumination
Simulation Tester
A leading automotive lamp manufacturer sought an automated method
for performing a required five-minute light up and test function
before packing for shipment.
MRI designed, built and integrated an in-line system that removed
lamps from upstream production pallets, inserted them into powered
sockets, shrouded the lamps to simulate the application environment,
passed them through a controlled temperature light up zone for the
five-minute test, tested the lamps for illumination, ejected non-conforming
lamps, and passed only good product to the waiting packing operator.
The resulting machine achieved significant productivity gains, eliminated
manual batch testing and bulk packing of lamps, and reduced WIP
inventory.
The result -- a system, running at 1440 lamps per hour to match
the upstream operation, to replace the traditional method of bulk
packing lamps into trays, manual batch testing at 25 lamps per load
and bulk packing lamps for transport to packing.
MRI's
equipment design also achieved significant productivity gains as
well as elimination of the bulk packed WIP between batch operations
for the client.
